A visit to Casa Bacardi was in my to-do list in Puerto Rico. They offer three kinds of tours: Visitor Center ($12), Rum Tasting Tour ($35) and Mixology Tour ($35). For details visit Casa Bacardi.
Of course I picked the Mixology Tour and it was worth it! The Mixology Tour includes a commemorative Bacardi glass and a free welcome cocktail from the bar which is located in the Visitor Center.
While waiting for our tour, my friend and I hung out at the bar (of course) and got our free drink. I chose the “special” of the day which was called Dark Passion. It was very good. The bartender was very accommodating and entertaining. He put on a show as I took photos of his skills.
The Mixology Tour starts off with the tour of the grounds which includes a short trolley ride to the “Cathedral of Rum”, the largest rum distillery in the world.
Our tour guide was a funny guy and so our group had lots of laughter the whole time. I learned a lot about the history as well as the famous rum drinks: Cuba Libre, Daquiri, and Mojito.
The best part is at the end of the tour because that’s when the REAL fun begins!
Here’ s the first mojito I’ve ever made! I don’t want to brag, but damn it was the best!
Did I tell you this was a legit mixology class? I mean, it’s official. I’m certified!
How to book a tour:
Online booking is now available via their website. We booked it in person since they offer it every hour and we were not in a rush. Last tour is at 4:00 pm. Always check their hours. Sometimes they close for weather reasons.
How to get there:
The best way to get there is from Old San Juan Port then take the ferry. The ferry is really cheap and you get to cruise all the way to Cataño! There are taxis everywhere as well so don’t worry about transportation.
You can also drive to Casa Bacardi but if you want to drink and enjoy all the rum, I recommend taking my suggestions. Be responsible. Don’t drink and drive!
