If you are looking to explore outside of Madrid, Toledo is a great city for a quick day trip.
Picking Toledo wasn’t a random choice. It was a familiar name thanks to my earliest memories of the Spanish novel, Don Quixote. Fortunately, the town was only thirty minutes away from Madrid by train and if you have a Spain Rail Pass, all you need to do is buy your seat reservation. (Cost is 20 euros for round trip)
Toledo Train Station
The old city is located on top of a mountain overlooking the river, historical sites and the city center. You can either take the taxi or walk up the hill.
Here are some of the snaps I took while walking around the city:
Puente de San Martin (St. Martin’s Bridge)
The Targus River
Toledo is visually stunning as well as historical. It is especially perfect for history buffs and photographers. If you are looking for a good day trip from Madrid, consider going to Toledo!
