Part 2: Avenida 5

Avenida 5 (5th Avenue) is Playa del Carmen’s hotspot for shopping, dining and nightlife.

As I mentioned before in Part 1, we were lucky enough to have our cute hotel situated within walking distance to the beach, downtown, and Avenida 5. Although we lived close to the avenida, that was actually the last place we spent time on. We only go at night after our day trips to enjoy a cool mojito or margarita. My friend D and I waited until the last minute to spend the day here and do all our souvenir shopping.

On our way, we encountered this artist just minding his own business, doing his street art.

And I fell in love with this beautiful house!

more shopping!!

My favorite street name – Heart Street…. it sounds better in spanish.

At night, get serenaded while dining!

We dined here for one night and it was quite a splurge. After that, we decided to be adventurous and sample the local (and quite frankly, cheaper) cuisines. One night we went to this small barbeque place recommended by our hotel concierge. It was by far one of the best barbeques I ever had. It was located downtown and we had fun walking around the city. Our very nice hotel concierge drew me a map of downtown and taught me how to read the street signs!(calles versus avenidas, etc.) The people are so friendly fun!

Speaking of fun, this is how our drinks were served to us…..

Mexico won’t be Mexico if not for the drinks! Nothing beats an authentic mexican margarita and mojito!!

And so my Mexico saga continues…. watch out for “Part 3: Tulum, The Ruins of Paradise”.

For the first part check out my past post “Part 1: I left my heart (and soul) in Mexico”.
