Hanging With The Bison

I discovered Caprock Canyons State Park during one of my frequent visits to Texas. Tucked away in between untamed red lands and rugged cliffs, Caprock Canyons is a quiet undiscovered beauty that is home to the official bison herd of Texas. These magnificent mammals are believed to be the last descendants of the historical great southern plains bison herd set aside by legendary rancher Charles Goodnight in the late 1800s.

It was my first time to see a bison in person and up close. I felt like I walked back in time or in a Western movie surrounded by this iconic bison herd. I was also truly amazed at how enormous and intimidating they were.

Caprock Canyons is a destination itself with its beautiful red rocks and rugged landscape. The wild and raw appeal of this side of the country is still something that takes my breath away.

The park has many activities for the adventurous: Hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, camping. And for a measly $4 admission fee, Caprock Canyons State Park is worth the one of a kind experience.
